In this edition of "Startup Stories," we spotlight Astrivis, a Swiss startup that recently participated in the Startup Camp powered by Innosuisse and managed by Swissnex. Through this program, Dr. Olivier Saurer Co-founder and CTO and Yiwen Ma Business Dev. at Astrivis explored the complexities of the Chinese market, deepened relationships with local stakeholders, and addressed key challenges like regulatory compliance and cloud infrastructure needs.
After a successful run from May 18 to November 17, 2024, the Cosmos Archaeology exhibition ended at the Shanghai Astronomy Museum. This fruitful Sino-Swiss collaboration between Swissnex in China, EPFL Pavilions, and the Shanghai Astronomy Museum bridged the gap between scientific data and artistic interpretations to give the public a captivating blend of art and science. Visitors experienced the universe through multisensory installations and immersive technologies. Originally scheduled for four months, the exhibition was extended thanks to great public interest, attracting over 73,000 visitors during its run. The exhibition received support from Tsinghua University, Shanghai Astronomical Observatory CAS, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China Science and Technology Exchange Center (CSTEC), Yuanzhen Culture, and Presence Switzerland.

We’re excited to announce the official release of the 2024 China-Switzerland White Paper on Vocational Education, an overview of the collaboration between Switzerland and China in vocational and professional education and training (VPET). Federal Councillor Guy Parmelin, Head of the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research, traveled to Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Hong Kong with representatives from the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation, swissuniversities, ETH Board, EPFL, University of Geneva, Swiss National Science Foundation, Innosuisse, Switzerland Innovation and SFUVET. This was the first such trip in more than 6 years. We compiled some of the highlights and key takeaways from the week.
EPFL has joined the Multi Spectroscopic Telescope (MUST) project, led by Tsinghua University, to deepen our understanding of the universe, dark energy, and dark matter. Martin Vetterli, President of EPFL, and Luming Li, President of Tsinghua University, signed a research collaboration agreement in Beijing, officially establishing EPFL as a member of the project.
