Connecting Switzerland and the world in quantum science and technology
The quantum revolution is reaching a tipping point. Corporates and startups, supported by scientific discoveries, are closing in on the first quantum computer that can usefully outperform a classical machine. Advances in quantum cryptography and networking are securing our information from future threats, while quantum sensors are delivering unprecedented levels of precision and miniaturization. On the verge of new breakthroughs, governments are investing large sums in quantum research and innovation, as well as talent and workforce development. As many countries are adopting national strategies for competitive advantage, international collaborations remain the lifeblood of scientific advancement and technology commercialization.
Project Quantum is Swissnex’s initiative to connect Switzerland and the world in quantum science and technology. Through a series of activities undertaken across the global Swissnex network, it aims to help accelerate scientific breakthroughs and shape the quantum economy. Kyoto, October 5, 2025 – During the 22nd annual meeting of the STS Forum in Kyoto, Switzerland and Japan formalized a strategic partnership in the field of quantum science, technology and innovation through the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC).
On 30 June 2025, the Swiss Pavilion at Expo 2025 became a vibrant hub for discussions on quantum innovation hosting mainly industry experts for prospective collaboration, but also government officials, and leading scientists in quantum technology. In late June, Switzerland and South Korea took a significant leap forward in quantum collaboration, with a series of events and high-level meetings culminating around Quantum Korea 2025. From June 23 to 26, a series of events centered around Quantum Korea took place in South Korea, aimed at strengthening and expanding Swiss–Korean collaboration in the quantum field. This goal as further reinforced by the visit of Martina Hirayama, State Secretary for Education, Research and Innovation, and a scientific, engaging in high-level meetings and institutional visits.
