East Coast Startup Programs: 2024 Recap

Swissnex welcomed 66 Swiss startups in 2024 for programs in Boston, New York, and beyond.

December 16, 2024 | Boston & New York

2024 has been a successful year for Swissnex’s startup activities on the US East Coast, with 66 Swiss startups participating in programs organized by Swissnex in Boston and New York. These  startups include participants in our three flagship startup support programs – Venture Leaders, the Startups Camps, and Climate Collider – as well those who took part in other events and programs throughout the year, including the Climate Ring.

By The Numbers

Of the startups, more than half were in the life sciences, reflecting Switzerland’s strength in the sectors as well as the importance of Boston as a source for funding and talent. Among these startups, cancer diagnostics and treatments were well represented (7), alongside tissue and transplant technologies (5). The second most prominent sector was climatetech, with 17 startups. Among these, energy solutions (7) and food and agriculture (5) had the strongest representation. The most popular destination was Boston, where we hosted 46 startups in total, followed by New York with 26. 15 startups participated in programs across multiple locations, including New Haven (6), Houston (5), and San Diego (4).

Our Programs

The Startup Camps powered by Innosuisse and managed by Swissnex brought 30 startups to the East Coast for personalized market validation and market entry support. Over the course of the year, 15 startups travelled to Boston and New York each, representing a variety of sectors including medtech, robotics, agriculture, and more. In addition to individualized itineraries, Swissnex coordinated cohorts of retailtech and biotech startups around key industry events.

Two editions of Climate Collider, a startup exchange program powered by Swissnex and Innosuisse, brought 11 Swiss climatetech founders to the US to exchange knowledge and build connections with American climatetech founders, investors, and other ecosystem stakeholders. The spring edition, focused on energy technology, took the cohort from Boston to Houston, the “Energy Capital of the World,” where they attended CERAWeek, a leading event for energy executives, while the fall edition brought them to Climate Week NYC, the largest annual climate festival of its kind.

Two roadshows, organized in collaboration with Venturelab, brought ten top Swiss biotech and medtech startups to Boston in May and November to explore the world’s leading life sciences ecosystem and connect with investors.

Looking Forward

We are currently accepting applications for startups from all sectors interested in traveling to Boston and New York in Q2 2025 as part of the Startup Camps powered Innosuisse and organized by Swissnex. Swiss biotech startups are encouraged to apply for Q2 2025 and participate in a one-week biotech cohort program in Boston and North Carolina’s “Research Triangle” in advance of the BIO International Convention.
