HESAV-Teikyo University Exchange: Presentations by Swiss and Japanese Students

Students from HESAV and Teikyo University made presentations to conclude the first part of this year’s exchange in the field of radiology at the Swiss Ambassador's Residence in Tokyo.

HESAV (Haute École de Santé Vaud) and Teikyo University have been organizing short-term student exchanges in the field of radiology for medical use since 2017. The approximate 2-week visits had been occurring every year on a reciprocal basis. Due to COVID-19, these exchanges were suspended in 2021 and 2022. This year’s round is the one to celebrate the reinstatement of the exchanges in full scale.

In January 2023, the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two universities has been renewed at the Joint Committee Meeting (JCM) under the Science & Technology Cooperation Agreement between the two governments. Dr. Carole Wyser, General Director of HESAV and Prof. Dr. Takahide Okamoto leading the Teikyo delegation since the beginning signed in Bern in the presence of Ambassador Jacques Ducrest of the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI) and Ambassador Misako Kaji of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan (MOFA).

During this trip, the HESAV delegation consisting of nine students and two instructors stayed in Japan from 26 June to 7 July. At Teikyo University, they attended several lectures such as “Japan’s medical system” and “Current status of CT and MRI”, toured the facilities of Teikyo University Hospital and received practical training at the hospital. They enjoyed a cultural exchange with Teikyo’s faculty and students as well. The program also included a visit to the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant and a tour to the factory of Canon Medical Systems Corporation. At the end of the program, the students from both universities presented their reports to the Ambassador of Switzerland to Japan, Dr. Andreas Baum, who hosted this event of presentations.

At the networking session after the presentations, the HESAV delegation deepened exchanges with the Ambassador and participants from Teikyo University in a relaxed atmosphere and shared their views on the significance of the program and the further deepening of exchange between the two universities.

The Japanese students plan to visit Switzerland in autumn of this year.
