Brazil: In 2021, Brazil’s economy rebounded impressively by 4.6% post-pandemic, with a notable eightfold increase in investments compared to 2018. With over 25% of its GDP stemming from agribusiness, the demand for technologies supporting sustainable food systems is apparent. Notably, 67% of Brazilians reduced their meat consumption, yet 53% still need help finding alternatives in supermarkets. Recognizing the urgency of the Future of Food, our initiative fosters collaboration between Switzerland and Brazil, driving innovative solutions from farm to table, catering to the changing food landscape, and connecting the rich agricultural traditions of both nations to a more sustainable and diverse culinary future.

China: China announced its National Nutrition Plan for the period 2017-2030. With a population of 1.4 billion, China faces significant challenges related to food security, quality, and eco-friendly production. All these issues have led China to develop programs in recent years to encourage the development of the nutrition industry, both in terms of innovation and entrepreneurship, as well as at the academic level with leading universities in the field.

    Mirelle Dogenski

    Updairy Startup Co-Founder and CTO

    Mirelle is a food engineer and has a Ph.D. from UFSC. After her studies, she spent two years working on more than 30 innovation consulting projects for corporations and in startup acceleration programs. Seeking to combine her experiences, veganism, and the desire to do business with science, she co-founded Updairy in 2022, a Brazilian bio-food tech for precision fermentation. The startup uses advanced fermentation techniques to develop dairy proteins using fungi without involving animals. Updairy’s mission is to meet the demands of the B2B market for dairy ingredients that promote taste, nutrition, health, and functionality. It aims to make food production models more ethical and sustainable.

    Alfredo Romminger

    He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Brasilia and has been a researcher in Innovation Management at Embrapa since 2011. Since 2018, he has worked in the Innovation Environments Department at Embrapa’s Business Executive Board, an area responsible for supporting Embrapa’s actions in the Brazilian innovation ecosystem, working with startups and innovation hubs to form partnerships and carry out innovation initiatives. He has been part of the team behind the development of Radar Agtech Brasil since its first edition in 2019.

Meet the Cluster Food & Nutrition

The Cluster Food & Nutrition is an association that has been active in the agri-food sector since 2015. As a regional and national networking and facilitation platform, the Food & Nutrition Cluster’s mission is to strengthen collaboration between the various players in the agri-food ecosystem and to support them in their innovation efforts by combining knowledge of food processing with that of nutrition, health, and emerging technologies in a sustainable manner and accordance with the principles of the circular economy. More than 180 members and partners from the food, agriculture, packaging, and distribution sectors, as well as research and training institutions, the public sector, and trade associations, are currently part of the Cluster’s network.
