Responsibilities

As an Academic Associate at Swissnex in Boston, you will join a dynamic team working in a creative and collaborative environment located between Harvard and MIT in Cambridge, Massachusetts. You will be responsible for a wide variety of activities, including but not limited to:

  • Developing networks and relationships in both the local and Swiss landscapes in the fields of higher education and scientific research.
  • All phases of event and project management (planning, budgeting, execution, follow-up) for events and delegations in higher education
  • Tracking and reporting on activities in our database and to our headquarters
  • Networking and outreach to find speakers, audiences, and partners
  • Coordinating the visit of a class of MBA students from the School of Management Fribourg for a weeklong deep dive into the Boston ecosystem and integrating the program into a module on discovering new markets. This will include identifying and recruiting startups to pose business challenges for the students’ to address as junior consultants, as well as organizing company visits, events and lectures to inform the student’s work
  • Supporting the School of Management Fribourg on growing its network in the United States by researching, compiling, and sharing information
  • Assisting with event planning, logistics, and execution, as well as office operations
  • Creating value for Switzerland through all these activities, and more!
Requirements
  • This internship position requires that the candidate studies in a university or university of applied sciences in Switzerland towards a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree and is requested to do an internship in order to obtain the degree, or the last university degree (Bachelor/Master) is not older than one year at the beginning of the internship
  • The candidate must not yet have professional experience in the field of his/her studies
  • The total period of internships (including this one) in the federal government may not exceed 12 months
  • Applicants must be Swiss citizens or have a valid Permit C

Junior Project Manager Academic Relations at Swissnex in China (Part-Time)

Swissnex in China is the Science Consulate of Switzerland in China. As part of the Swissnex global network, we connect Switzerland, China and the world in science, research, education and innovation. We are looking for a bright, self-driven and ambitious Junior Project Manager with exceptional communications and organizational skills to promote Swissnex in China’s many projects and activities in the field of Academic Relations. Acting as a connector between people, projects and ideas, you will support Swissnex in China to initiate and foster knowledge exchange and long-lasting partnerships between Swiss and Chinese higher educational institutions. As Junior Project Manager, you are happy to embrace and lead change, able to work across disciplines and ready to help us bring Swissnex’s outreach to the next level. You will be joining a dynamic and supportive team and working in an international, creative and collaborative environment at our Shanghai office.

Main Responsibilities
  • Academic Relations: Establish and cultivate close relationship with stakeholders from Swiss and Chinese higher educational institutions. Facilitate collaborations and exchanges for students, researchers, and professors.
  • Project Management: Organize and coordinate events (on-site and online), workshops, presentations, and conferences.
  • Research: Conduct research on Chinese higher education and innovation. Closely follow current trends in the academic field. Prepare and hold presentations introducing Swiss higher education system and other hot topics to students.
  •  Communications & Networking: Represent Swiss universities as ambassador at student fairs, educational conferences and respond to queries and requests relating to the educational field. Support, strengthen and expand the Swiss Alumni network in China.
Requirements
  • Chinese citizenship
  • Bachelor or master’s students and graduates, preferably from a Swiss university or university of applied sciences
  • Excellent written and oral command of English
  • Knowledge of the higher education environment in Switzerland and China preferred
  • Prior experience in event organization and/or project management in a similar field preferred
  • Strong competency in research and writing

As one of the members of the Swissnex team, you are expected to take full ownership for accomplishing different requests and projects from Swiss and Brazilian stakeholders; to identify and explore opportunities to shape a sustainable portfolio of future activities, and to expand and deepen our relationships with Brazilian and Swiss partners.

Startups & Innovation Projects: take a leading role in further expanding activities and services geared towards startups and innovation actors;

Conduct the Innosuisse Market Entry Program in Brazil: identify and manage Swiss technology and science-based startup pipeline in close coordination with the Rio de Janeiro Office team. Build a strong network of local coaches and partners, implement the program including communications, reach out, logistics, reporting, etc. Support any other activities related to the implementation of the Innosuisse Market Entry Camp in Brazil, collaborate and exchange with other Swissnex Global Offices project managers;
Support the planning and implementation of the Academia Industry Training (AIT) program in Rio de Janeiro & São Paulo;
Advise Swiss technology and science-based startups regarding Brazilian market activities/opportunities;
Organize individual and group startup camps;

Develop residency/training program for Swiss startups coming to Brazil, including the definition of target groups, partners, budget, funding sources, etc.

What we look for in a candidate

Background / Experience
