Mandates are cooperation agreements between Swissnex in Brazil and partners to extend their professional networks, strengthen international cooperation and exchange of Swiss researchers, innovators and institutions. Depending on the specific structure of the mandate, different tasks can be fulfilled.

What we offer

Mandates are cooperation agreements between Swissnex in Brazil and partners to extend their professional networks, strengthen international cooperation and exchanges of Swiss researchers, innovators and institutions. Depending on the specific structure of the mandate, different tasks can be fulfilled.

Some examples of what we can offer are:

The organization (program, logistics, translation, administration) of visits by university professors or researchers to establish contacts with local partners such as universities, researchers, organizations, companies. These can be expanded to study tours and the elaboration of summer schools in partnership with our local partners.

Swissnex in Brazil can also increase its partners’ visibility through communication mandates, whereby the specific university is represented on a larger scale on social media, conferences, workshops, networking events.

We also offer office space for researchers, students and entrepreneurs during their stay in Brazil. It includes internet connection, working space, meeting room as well as fast connection to the main areas of Rio de Janeiro by public transport or car.

Academia-Industry Training

Swissnex in Brazil in collaboration with the University of St. Gallen (HSG), the Brazilian National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq), the Ministry of Science, Technology, Innovation and Communication (MCTIC) launched training camps for Brazilian and Swiss scientists: “Academia Industry Training”. 

The AIT  aims to connect promising researchers-entrepreneurs with the industry in order to develop the market application of their high-level research. It also makes international researchers working together to share best practices, understand new markets, develop new market applications and create synergies.

ZHAW

ZHAW is one of the leading universities of applied sciences in Switzerland. Research & development at the ZHAW focuses on key societal challenges, with a particular emphasis on energy and societal integration. With its expertise in sustainable development and digital transformation, the ZHAW imparts forward-looking knowledge and takes an active part in shaping the digital and ecological transformation. The goal is to expand the professional networks and strengthen international cooperation and exchange of ZHAW staff members and their respective departments by building new networks contributing to the international profiling and visibility of ZHAW. Services include:

  • Individual sabbatical

    When a ZHAW staff member comes to Brazil, Swissnex organizes an agenda with potential partners, assisting with networking beyond the relationship already in place between the ZHAW researcher and its partner in Brazil.

  • Virtual sabbatical

    Understanding of specific goals & professional scope via phone, Skype, email identification of relevant stakeholders in Brazil (within or beyond Swissnex network) and organization of bilateral meetings.

Oikos & Movetia

A collaboration between oikos and Swissnex in Brazil sponsored by Movetia, the Leadership & Sustainability Fellowship, aims to gather international students and academics to foster innovation in sustainable management and leadership education, through the oikos-designed “Students Creating Curriculum for Sustainability” project.

Swissnex in Brazil hosts a graduated student (Bachelor or Master Degree) as an intern upon mutual agreement to develop and implement the project.

Escolhares: Network Expansion

The NGO Escolhares, created in Switzerland, carries out initiatives in public schools of Rio de Janeiro with Swiss and Brazilian volunteers. In August 2019, Swissnex in Brazil hosted an academic residency with Medical and Nursing students from the Laboratory for Investigative Neurophysiology at the University of Lausanne (UNIL). The group performed exams and delivered glasses to children in schools in impoverished areas of the city.
During their residency at Swissnex in Brazil they have been able to expand their network locally by establishing connections with Fiocruz, the Brazilian Society of Ophthalmology and several local university hospitals as well as participating in the – Unleashing Brazil-Switzerland connections for Health innovation – Lausanne – where an informative session about opportunities in the Health ecosystem in Brazil, followed by a networking session at CHUV, was presented to researchers, startup, students and medical doctors.

Oikos: Network Implementation

With this partnership, funded by Movetia, Swissnex in Brazil and oikos International managed not only to promote Innovation, but also to be a source of innovation. By hosting a student project, we participated in the development of unusual learning and working methods, in addition to best practices in education and virtual mobility, which can both contribute to social and environmental sustainability. Simultaneously, other projects elaborated to bring together academics from Switzerland and Brazil. Through webinars and discussion groups, the fellow will collect different perspectives and practices in education for sustainability in both countries, especially in curricula related to economics, management and administration.
The result of this cooperative project was the first edition of NexGenlead that took place from the 31st of October to the 21st of November 2020. It was a 3-week journey, exploring the topics of sustainability & leadership from an intercultural and intracultural perspective, involving professors from both Switzerland and Brazil and students from different countries around the globe.
