As electricity grids worldwide come under mounting pressure from climate change, rising energy demand, and geopolitical instability, the question of how to build resilient and flexible energy systems has become one of the defining challenges of the global energy transition. From September 2-4, 2026, Swiss-Japan Energy Days returns for its third edition, bringing together leading researchers, startups, policymakers, and industry experts from Switzerland and Japan to explore the technologies, policies, and collaborations shaping the future of energy.

Held simultaneously at Swissnex in Japan and EPFL, this year’s edition will focus on electricity grid resilience and demand management. Under the 2026 theme, “Empowering Breakthroughs, Energizing the Future”, the program will explore how Switzerland and Japan are responding to the growing complexity of modern electricity systems. Amid increasing pressure on energy infrastructure worldwide, ensuring resilient and flexible electricity grids has become a central challenge of the transition toward sustainable energy systems.

The three-day program will feature policy keynotes, academic presentations, startup pitches, industry talks, and site visits, creating opportunities for cross-sector dialogue between researchers, entrepreneurs, policymakers, and industry leaders from both countries.

This year, Empa joins the initiative as a new co-organizer alongside Swissnex, the EPFL Energy Center, and the Energy Science Center of ETH Zürich.

Registration for Swiss-Japan Energy Days 2026 will officially open on June 1, 2026. More details on speakers and program sessions will be announced soon.
