Conservation of energy is an established principle in both physics and in the boxing ring. To win the fight, you have to stay mobile while keeping enough fuel left in the tank. Aviation is a core pillar of global mobility, and is unlikely to disappear. But flying needs to become drastically more efficient to keep pace with our climate goals.
In round 5 of Climate Ring, experts will discuss the latest on sustainability in aviation. What technologies are making an impact now, and how fast can the industry adapt? What are the scientific, business, or policy challenges preventing change? Aurelia Figueroa will frame the challenges and discuss Breitling’s sustainability actions, while Mark Rumizen will give an introduction to sustainable aviation fuels and explain Air Company’s work converting CO2 into fuel. Silke Wobken from Lufthansa Group will address current industry challenges and present Lufthansa’s strategies for flying cleaner, and Pierpaolo Cazzola from the European Transport and Energy Research Centre will analyze the different regulatory regimes for sustainable fuels in the US and Europe. Following the presentations, Aurelia Figueroa will moderate a panel discussion.
