nexCafé #8: Tinguely Entangled

Art-science talk on “Tinguely Entangled,” a visionary performance designed by Swiss pianist Lukas Loss, in collaboration with scientist Dr. Henry Legg, brought an immersive journey into the heart of quantum physics with artistry and groundbreaking scientific insights.

Tinguely Entangled Recitation

We are thrilled by the resounding success of the 8th edition of our nexCafé art-science talk series. It was an honor for Swiss Consul Dr. Felix Moesner and Head of Art-Science Fiammetta Pennisi to host the performative event “Tinguely Entangled.”

This visionary art and science performance was designed by Swiss pianist Lukas Loss in collaboration with scientist Dr. Henry Legg from the National Center of Competence in Research (NCCR) SPIN: Spin Qubits in Silicon, based at the University of Basel. The event also featured contributions from physicists Arianna Nigro, Rafael S. Eggli, Valerii Kozin, and Jung-Ching Liu.

Video artist Michele Innocente enhanced the performance with stunning visuals, creating an immersive experience. The panel discussion, moderated by science journalist Akihico Mori, included Lukas Loss, Dr. Henry Legg, and Valerii Kozin, who delved into the project’s concept, scriptwriting, and the fusion of music and visual arts.

Dr. Henry Legg’s recitations and Anna Gagane’s clarinet performance were highlights, blending art and science in a way that sparked creativity and discovery.

Finally, we had the honor of Dr. Masahiro Kitagawa, Director of the Center for Quantum Information and Quantum Biology at Osaka University, giving the final remarks, where he recalled that the United Nations has proclaimed 2025 as the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology, marking 100 years since the advent of quantum mechanics. This initiative, led by Mexico and supported by major scientific unions such as the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP), IUPAC, IUCr, and IUHPST, aims to raise global awareness about the transformative impact of quantum science.

Stay tuned for more nexCafe events!
