A new symposium born of Swissnex’s efforts on quantum technology offers a unique opportunity to further strengthen Swiss-US relations around this emerging industry. Organized by QuantumBasel, and co-chaired by the Universities of Basel and Chicago, the US-Switzerland Quantum Symposium will take place from March 27-28, 2023, at uptownBasel in Arlesheim, Switzerland. The conference will feature presentations of cutting-edge research by leading quantum scientists from Switzerland and the US, poster sessions, industry use cases, and a special games-based public event on quantum science.

The Basel symposium grew directly out of the Swiss-US Quantum Days launched by Swissex last October in Chicago. Co-organized with the Chicago Quantum Exchange, the two-day conference was held in conjunction with the signing of a joint statement on cooperation in quantum between Switzerland and the US.

“It’s great to see that some of the discussions seeded in Chicago developed so rapidly into this brand new initiative in Switzerland,” says Benjamin Bollmann, CEO of Swissnex in Boston and New York. “This conference will be yet another key moment to deepen the entanglement of our two countries.”

Hosted by QuantumBasel CEO Damir Bogdan, and co-chaired by Daniel Loss from the University of Basel and David Awschalom from the University of Chicago, the US-Switzerland Quantum Symposium will feature prominent researchers including Mark Eriksson (University of Wisconsin-Madison), Giulia Galli (University of Chicago), Jonathan Home (ETH Zurich), Tobias Kippenberg (EPFL), Jelena Klinovaja (University of Basel), Mikhail Lukin (Harvard University), Javad Shabani (NYU), and Wolfgang Tittel (University of Geneva).

Brendan Karch, who leads Swissnex’s efforts on quantum technology, will attend the conference to represent the Swissnex network. “The Basel symposium is a great milestone for the continued development of quantum collaborations between Switzerland, the US, and beyond.
