Global Startup EXPO (GSE) is a new international initiative that aims to position Osaka as a leading destination for deep tech innovation and global entrepreneurship. Taking place from October 5-7 for its 2026 edition, the event connects startups, investors and industry leaders to accelerate international collaboration and address global challenges with innovative solutions.
Ahead of the event, Swissnex in Japan hosted a briefing session together with the Osaka Prefectural Government and members of the Science & Technology Diplomatic Circle (S&TDC) Kansai to introduce the initiative and strengthen international engagement. The event opened with remarks by Katsuhiro Higashiguchi, Director-General of the Osaka Prefectural Government, who delivered a message from Governor Hirofumi Yoshimura. The S&TDC Kansai then presented a Statement of Cooperation expressing the diplomatic community’s support to GSE 2026 and reaffirming a shared commitment to promoting international collaboration in deep tech innovation.
Participants received an overview of GSE 2026, alongside presentations on World Health Expo Osaka and the Osaka Innovation Hub. S&TDC Kansai members also introduced their respective innovation ecosystems. Swissnex in Japan highlighted the Switzerland’s strengths in education, research and innovation (ERI), emphasizing its commitment to acting as a bridge between Swiss and Japanese ERI ecosystems.
For Swiss startups, GSE 2026 offers an opportunity to engage with Japan’s dynamic innovation landscape, build strategic partnerships, and explore new avenues for business development. We look forward to continuing to support Swiss startups going global and to building deeper ties between Switzerland and Japan.
