Switzerland, a nation renowned for its natural beauty and innovation, was a fitting host for this event. The conference was an open invitation to anyone interested in contributing to a sustainable future, focusing on the Swiss Pavilion’s three central themes for Expo 2025:
- Life: Focusing on advancements in life sciences, health, and nutrition to enhance the quality of life.
- Planet: Addressing environmental sustainability, climate change, and innovative energy solutions to protect our planet.
- Augmented Human: Exploring robotics and artificial intelligence to amplify human capabilities and improve daily living.
These themes not only align with Switzerland’s strengths but also with the overarching goals of Expo 2025, which aims to “Design Future Society for Our Lives.”
Dr. Felix Moesner, Swiss Consul and CEO of Swissnex in Japan, set the tone with an inspiring keynote address. Dr. Moesner highlighted the importance of international collaboration and innovation in solving global challenges. He pointed out that the Swiss Pavilion would not just be a display of technological advancements but a space for engaging dialogue and co-creation. Dr. Moesner’s speech underscored the need for integrating different perspectives and leveraging Switzerland’s expertise in life sciences, sustainability, and technology.
Following the keynote, the conference shifted to interactive group discussions. These sessions were facilitated by notable experts, including Mr. Tomoyuki Takahashi, Executive Officer and General Manager of the Business Platform Unit, and Mr. Hirotaka Saso, Country Manager, Japan at Cambridge Consultants Ltd., who also served as a moderator.
Each group brainstormed practical solutions and proposed initiatives that could be implemented both at the Expo and beyond. They also noted that both Switzerland and Japan share strong traditions in craftsmanship, such as precision instruments, and discussed potential collaborations in areas like watchmaking and traditional crafts. Environmental sustainability and tourism management were also discussed, with Switzerland being noted for its efforts to balance natural preservation with tourism. Participants saw opportunities for Japan to learn from Switzerland’s practices in this area.
