    Bio

    Robert "Bob" Sumner

    Professor, Game Technology Center, ETH Zurich

    Prof. Robert Sumner is the Director of Research and Development at the Walt Disney Studios and an Adjunct Professor at ETH Zurich. Robert received a B.S. degree in computer science from the Georgia Institute of Technology and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He spent three years as a postdoctoral researcher at ETH Zurich before joining Disney.

    At Disney, Prof. Sumner leads research in animation and games. His group strives to bypass technical barriers in animation and game production pipelines with new algorithms that expand the designer’s creative toolbox in terms of depiction, movement, deformation, stylization, control, and efficiency.

    At ETH, Prof. Sumner teaches a course called the Game Programming Laboratory in which students from ETH and the Zurich University of the Arts work in small teams to design and implement novel video games. In 2015, Prof. Sumner founded the ETH Game Technology Center, which explores the unique way game technology can advance ETH’s mission in research, education, and outreach. Prof. Sumner was selected as one of Next Reality’s AR Software Development Leaders of 2018 and his recent speaker engagements include TEDxZurich, World Web Forum, Zurich Game Show, World VR Forum, Global Talent Summit, and Zurich Meets Hong Kong. He was also featured on BBC Click and Ars Technica for his work on Unfolding the 8-Bit Era as well as Reuters for his augmented reality research.

    Bio

    Soo-Mi Choi

    Professor, Graphics & Virtual Reality Lab, Sejong University

    Soo-Mi Choi is a Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at Sejong University, Korea and the Director of Mobile Virtual Reality Research Center designated by Korean Ministry of Science and ICT. She received her B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science and Engineering from Ewha University of Korea in 1993, 1995 and 2001, respectively.

    She was a visiting researcher of the Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics Research in Germany in 1998 and a research professor of the Center for Computer Graphics and Virtual Reality at Ewha University in 2001. She joined the faculty of Computer Science and Engineering at Sejong University in 2002. From 2008 to 2009 she was a visiting professor at CG Lab of ETH Zurich in Switzerland. In 2020, Prof. Choi was awarded Minister’s Award for research excellence of Mobile Virtual Reality Research Center by Korean Ministry of Science and ICT.

    Prof. Choi is a Vice President of the Korea Computer Graphics Society, a Director of the HCI Society of Korea, and a Director of the Korean Institute of Information Scientists and Engineers. Her current research interests include virtual and augmented reality, computer graphics, and human-computer interaction.

    Bio

    Oh-young Song

    Professor, Department of Digital Contents, Sejong University

    Oh-young Song received the B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees from the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Seoul National University, South Korea, in 1998, 2000, and 2004, respectively. He was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Seoul National University, from 2004 to 2006. He is currently a professor with the Department of Software, Sejong University, South Korea.

    His research interests include computer graphics, simulation, and machine learning. Especially, he has contributed in the areas of physics-based animation, human motion, numerical algorithms, VR/AR applications, medical image analysis, and deep learning.

    Fabio Zünd

    Managing Director, Game Technology Center, ETH Zurich

    Dr. Fabio Zünd is the Managing Director at the Game Technology Center at ETH Zurich, Switzerland. He received his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from ETH Zurich, focusing his research on game technology, augmented reality, and computer-assisted storytelling at the ETH Computer Graphics Laboratory and at Disney Research Zurich, Switzerland. In 2016, he co-founded the Game Technology Center with the vision to advance the state of the art in game technology and to apply gamification to disciplines such as learning, creativity, and culture.
