Pantanal Science Camp Launch

Swissnex launches the Pantanal Science Camp, a unique research and collaboration opportunity in Brazil! Join us on 30 June to learn more (12:00 BRT / 17:00 CET).

Located in the heart of South America, the Pantanal is a mosaic of ecosystems, neighboring the Amazon Rainforest, the Cerrado, the Atlantic Forest and the Bolivian Chaco. This is where Swissnex, in collaboration with Sesc Pantanal, will launch its Pantanal Science Camp.

The Pantanal is one of the most diverse biomes on earth. This rich and unique wetland holds high concentrations of breathtaking wildlife. This is an ideal environment to research various fields, such as sustainability, biology, ecology, wildlife conservation, culture and more. Through one-week science camps, Swissnex will provide access to the largest Private Natural Heritage Reserve in Brazil through a one-week science camp with complete infrastructure and full support on connecting with researchers, universities, and academic partners.

On 30 June, Swissnex in Brazil will host an online webinar to present not only the Pantanal Science Camp and research, collaboration, and partnership opportunities. Prof. Carlos Artexes Simões will present the National Department of Sesc, its activities and partnerships, showing the dimension of the cooperation capacity of Sesc. Christiane Caetano, museologist at Sesc, will give examples of the Pantanal region’s partnership potential for knowledge production and the development of innovative projects. Professor Dr. Luiz Flamarion, Associate Professor at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), will present his history of cooperation with Sesc Pantanal and the importance of scientific research in the region to preserve biodiversity and the mitigation of climate change. Finally, Professor Dr. Cátia Nunes da Cunha, Associate Researcher at the Federal University of Mato Grosso (UFMT), will overview the Pantanal region and its characteristics, the wetlands, and vital importance for ecosystems and for life on Earth as “Biological supermarkets.”
