SRF ‘EINSTEIN’: EXPEDITION DEEP INTO THE GLACIER
Kathrin Hönegger (Einstein Co-Host)
Founded by the Swiss Science Film Academy, the Global Science Film Festival brings together scientists and filmmakers who share one passion: “scientific communication through film”. This year, the simultaneous screening will feature 2 short films – Autosaurus Rex and CaSSIS.Mars Demystified and 1 documentary film – SRF ‘Einstein’: Expedition Deep into The Glacier.
Followed by the screening of the films, a podium discussion themed “Making science accessible to the broad public” will be organized with experts from the respective locations. For the program from China, Prof. Shugui Hou, Distinguished Professor from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, will join the podium discussion in Basel, and Ms. Yang Yang, Independent Documentary Film Director and Founder of Jilu Commune will join us on-site. Both experts will share their insights on the topic from their own perspectives. The audience will also have the chance to interact with the speakers and Directors of the selected films.

The glaciers in the Swiss Alps are melting due to global warming. As a consequence, melting water from the “Plaine Morte” glacier has turned into a threat for the mountain village “Lenk” in the Bernese Alps. This is why scientists explore the water channels inside the glacier. Presenter Tobias Müller delves into this climatic hotspot – on a daring expedition into the middle of the glacier.
