Café des Sciences: Acceptance of New Robot Technologies in Elderly Care

Join us in the 28th Café des Sciences to explore the topic of robotics and the elderly care industry.

According to the World Population Ageing Report (2017) by the Department of Economic and Social Affairs of United Nations: the global population aged 60 years or over numbered 962 million in 2017, more than twice as large as in 1980 when there were 382 million older persons worldwide.

The number of older persons is expected to double again by 2050 when it is projected to reach nearly 2.1 billion. The world’s population is ageing: older persons are increasing in number and make up a growing share of the population in virtually every country, with implications for nearly all sectors of society.

As the world’s population ageing grows, it is more important than ever that innovative healthcare systems are designed specifically to target older persons. However, the number of caregivers is not increasing proportionally with the growing elderly population. The development and adoption of elder care robots is an important solution to this issue.

In the upcoming Café des Sciences Lecture, we will invite Michael Früh, CEO of F&P Robotics. With his professional background in Electronics Engineering and Health Economics, Michael Früh has led F&P Robotics to grow from an innovative startup to SME and has built a foothold market presence globally in this right niche. He would delve into the medical care industry in Switzerland and Germany, elaborate on the current user cases, and look into the aging industry in the near future. Then Ms. Monica Zhang, APAC BD Director of F&P Robotics, will share her insights in robotics and the elderly care industry. F&P Robotics, the Zurich-based high-tech robotics company is a leading provider of lightweight robots and focuses on the reduction of complexity in automation. It provides all-in-one robotic solutions leveraging expertise in arm and effector technologies as well as artificial intelligence.

Café des Sciences

Café des Sciences is an event series at Swissnex in China initiated in 2019, offering a platform for Swiss spotlight scientists, start-ups, artists and designers to present their projects and connect with the local community. The lectures offer a casual setting in which speakers can present their work and engage with the attendees during a Q&A period. Audiences are welcomed to enjoy the networking reception with Swiss flavor after the talk. Starting in 2021, the lectures are scheduled to take place on the third Thursday of every other month at Swissnex in China or our partner spaces.
