Art x Science Dialogues is a new webinar series initiated by Swissnex in China in 2020. It will take place once per month from May to August via Zoom, covering topics of Design x Materials Science, Sonic art x Neuroscience, Photography x Environmental Ecology, and New interdisciplinary Initiatives.
We will invite a diverse profile of Swiss speakers to exchange ideas with representatives of the Chinese art and science community. Among the Swiss speakers are an expert from a research institution, an individual artist with high-acclaimed projects, two veterans from independent art community, and two devoted academic researchers. Given that the local art and science scene is still in its infancy, our end goal is to showcase several long-term growth trajectories by presenting the Swiss models, stimulate ideas through cross-border dialogues, and inspire more collaborations in this exciting field. Along the way, we also have two overarching questions that we attempt to answer, namely what is art-science and its position in different societies? We already know that art-science is not merely about using technological means to make and present art. Join us on the journey to explore what art-science could actually mean.
Art x Science Dialogues will start the series with the topic of Design x Materials Science. We believe good design combines science and art in inspirational and creative ways. And the breakthroughs in materials science are likely to affect the future of design significantly. Therefore, to kick off on a high note, we have invited Gabriele Dobenecker, Head Fundraising, Entrepreneurship & Industry Relations at Empa, and Lyla Wu, founder at Neuni Group for a collaborative discussion.
