The Covid-19 has generated great impact on the creative industry. The lockdown and social distance measures are pushing people to seek for new format to conduct cultural activities. The digitalization of artistic works is getting more and more popular. For artists, the challenge also brings opportunities. It is the time to explore further the combination of arts and technologies. Meanwhile, their desire to reform the participation and interactions between audience and stages is growing stronger.

On December 17th, our 24th Café des Sciences will focus on the topic of Virtual Theatre, the best harmony of arts and science. We will invite Gilles Jobin, a dancer, choreographer and director and Natacha Koutchoumov, the Co-director of the Comédie de Genève to give a joint presentation on the project of La Comédie Virtuelle. In March 2020 during the European Covid lockdown Gilles conceives with his digital company a live piece for a digital theater. In this ground breaking piece presented in competition at the 77th Venice Film Festival, 5 dancers from 3 different locations, Bangalore, Sidney and Geneva, meet together in the same virtual space, in real time, motion captured from where they are. Separated by thousands of kilometers, they dance and interact in the same virtual space in front of an international online live audience.
