Travel Across Boundaries

The rapidly growing digital transformation has an immense impact on our planet. Our contemporary life is challenged by constant dynamic adaptation to these new realities. Technologies like automation and AI, large-scale factor digitalization, 3D-printing, virtual reality, and advanced robotics affect not only our society but also have an impact on our culture and nature.

With “Travel Across Boundaries”, ETH Zurich and University of Zurich showcase how Artificial Intelligence and Metaverse are used as research tools for the benefit of society – and our planet. ETH Zurich offers VR experiences to meet Einstein and take virtual trips to daily lives of Switzerland and to Zermatt. University of Zurich invites the audience on a world tour with AI to observe wildlife.

Digitalization-led growth and implication for society

Science Day 2023

The Swiss-Korean Science Day 2023 aims to bring the attention on digitalization as a key driver for growth and discuss implications for the society.

In the session ‘Digital tech race and implications for security of global societies’ experts will share current status and latest efforts in the tech race for a more digital-secured society. How will the relation between digital transformation and these boundaries evolve in the near future?

In the special session ‘The circular path of research and innovation: key factors, instruments and role of international cooperation’ experts will share their perspectives on initiating and accelerating this circularity. How is convergence of disciplines changing the paradigm? What is the contribution of international cooperation and what the available instruments?

The session ‘Human-nature interaction: observation, sensing and digital models for social-ecological foresight’, will discuss examples that lie at the intersection between physics, ecology and data science, bringing insights into the understanding of the human-nature interaction.

Digital Meets Responsibility: An open dialogue

Digital Responsibility Day 2023

The world is witnessing an unprecedented digital trust crisis impacting many aspects of our daily lives. While regulatory frameworks such as General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) are now in place and have a global impact, public policies and global digital governance frameworks are only emerging.

Digital responsibility can be divided into three dimensions: Corporate Responsibility (CDR), Public Digital Responsibility, and Personal Digital Responsibility. CDR focuses on organizations and their engagement with digital issues, while Public Digital Responsibility covers policy and regulatory frameworks governing the digital transition. Personal Digital Responsibility ensures people have minimal understanding and hygiene in the digital realm.
The digital responsibility day aims to bring together participants from academia, industry, and policy bodies to discuss research ideas, results, challenges, and opportunities. This dialogue will serve as a basis for future conference in Seoul 2024-2025.

Preparing for the Age of Quantum

Quantum day 2023

The Quantum day will discuss the importance of quantum technologies and their potential to change fields such as computing, communication, and sensing. This event announces an open dialogue between Switzerland and Korea on Quantum Science and Technology, which aims to share visions about the transition from the digital age to a more hybrid age, where quantum technologies may augment digital performance. Experts will share examples of applications and discuss measures to tackle challenges in the transition to Quantum Age, as well as the role of scholars and institutions in fostering international cooperation.
