Launching the Planetary Embassy in Japan

The Planetary Embassy comes to Japan as a new platform where art, research, and foresight converge to explore the future of planetary diplomacy. The program showcases projects that examine how humans can engage differently with the planet and the more-than-human world.

Imagining planetary diplomacy

Swissnex introduces the Planetary Embassy as a space for reflection and exchange on how diplomacy might evolve when it extends beyond human-centered interests to engage with the planet’s living systems. Across the global Swissnex network, the Planetary Embassy takes shape through a series of pop-up experiences.

In Japan, it unfolds as a space for collective inquiry and shared responsibility through an exhibition and a program of events, bringing together artists, researchers, innovators, and young thinkers from around the world to explore new relationships between humans, ecosystems, and more-than-human beings.

At its core is the exhibition “Imagining Planetary Diplomacy”, developed in collaboration with Yuko Hasegawa, former Director of the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art and Visiting Professor at Kyoto University. The exhibition presents selected projects from the open call NextGen: Imagining Planetary Diplomacy, which invited emerging artists, researchers, and innovators to envision new forms of diplomacy in a time of planetary change.

Throughout March, a series of public talks, workshops, and discussions will unfold in dialogue with the exhibition. The program brings next-generation voices into conversation with Swiss and Japanese perspectives, highlighting the role of cross-disciplinary exchange in shaping futures grounded in planetary wellbeing.
