nexCafé #4 – Global Science Film Festival in Japan

“The film festival gave me time to rethink the issues we face today, such as global warming and biodiversity.” - Vanpo/Takako Inoue, Specialist of Swiss Wine/Wine Journalist

It has been an overwhelming success and a pleasure to host the fourth edition of our

nexCafé art-science talk series and the 5th Global Science Film Festival with the theme of “𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘁𝘆.” Founded by the Swiss Science Film Academy, the Global Science Film Festival brings together scientists and filmmakers who share one passion: “scientific communication through film.” This year for the first time, the simultaneous screenings were held in collaboration with Swissnex locations worldwide, co-organized with Swissnex in India and China.

We showed two amazing Swiss animations, Autosaurus Rex and CaSSIS.Mars Demystified, and one documentary film, SRF ‘Einstein’: Expedition Deep Into The Glacier. Through the movies, viewers can gain insight into different cultural and scientific perspectives and explore the power of science to change lives.

More than just a film screening! The podium discussion on the theme of “𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗱 𝗽𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰” afterward was a unique opportunity to meet the Swiss film directors and experts from the respective locations. Shin Sugiyama, a Professor at the Institute of Low Temperature Science, Hokkaido University, joined us directly to share his insights from the perspective of scientists.

Overall, the Global Science Film Festival was a fantastic event that provided a unique opportunity to explore the world of science and its power to connect people around the globe.
