Swissnex in Japan presents a Materials Science Startup Pitch Event, featuring four cutting-edge Swiss startups: CondenZero, NovoViz, Solabs Nanotechnology, and XRnanotech. Each startup will present its innovative solution in a short pitch (5 minutes), followed by a brief summary in Japanese, before concluding with a networking session with attendees. The startups partake in a material science – themed Startup Camp – powered by Innosuisse and managed by Swissnex.
Join entrepreneurs, investors, researchers, and innovation enthusiasts for an evening highlighting breakthrough material science technologies.
These startups will also showcase their innovations at the Swiss Pavilion during nano tech 2026 (28-30 Jan.).
condenZero develops ultra-low temperature technology for electron microscopy, enabling scientists to visualize quantum materials at the nanoscale. Our cryogenic systems reach temperatures near absolute zero with unmatched thermal stability, unlocking new frontiers in condensed matter physics, superconductivity, and next-gen computing materials.
NovoViz is a fabless semiconductor company that designs and manufactures computational single-photon imaging sensors. NovoViz solves the complexity and, consequently, the cost problem of single-photon sensors through our innovative on-chip digital processing architectures.
Solabs Nanotechnology
Solabs Nanotechnology provides the first passive Thermal Anti-Fog (TAF) coating — a sunlight-activated nanotechnology that delivers durable, maintenance-free anti-fog performance for eyewear, automotive glass, medical devices, and architectural applications. The ultra-thin coating absorbs heat with exceptional efficiency while maintaining high transparency, preventing and removing fog far more effectively than conventional sprays or coatings.
XRnanotech develops high-performance X-ray, EUV, and infrared optics, along with advanced nano and microstructures for ultra-high resolution imaging. Our world record fabrication capabilities provide extreme precision for semiconductor inspection, quantum sensing, space instrumentation, and biotechnology. Core products include zone plates, X-ray gratings, and custom nanostructures, all produced in-house in state-of-the-art cleanrooms. XRnanotech enables superior imaging performance, reliable scalability, and tailored solutions for demanding research and industrial applications.
Bio
Dr. Denys Sutter holds a PhD in Physics (UZH), with a background as a physics laboratory technician and business training. He leads sales, investor relations, and financial planning, and previously worked at Ferrovac AG designing scientific instruments. He co-founded condenZero in 2019 as a spin-off company of the Laboratory for Quantum Matter Research of the University of Zurich in Switzerland. Their field of expertise includes the development and production of scientific instruments and components for research applications in ultra-high vacuum and cryogenic conditions.
Bio
Dr. Andrada Muntean is CEO and co-founder of NovoViz, a Swiss fabless semiconductor firm specializing in computational single-photon imaging sensors. She holds a PhD from EPFL, MSc from TUDelft, BSc from Polytechnic University Timișoara, and did research at NASA JPL. Dr. Muntean’s expertise includes CMOS image sensors, semiconductors, IC design, and single-photon detectors across nodes from 350nm to 16nm FinFET.
Bio
Dr. Iwan Hächler, CEO, brings over eight years of international research experience from ETH Zurich, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, the Paul Scherrer Institute, and Chalmers University of Technology. His professional background includes strategic management at Infineon Singapore (APAC) and supply chain and sales at ABB Switzerland. Holding a PhD in Thermodynamics (top 8% ETH Zurich) and a CAS in Entrepreneurial Leadership, he has received the ETH Silver Medal and Swiss Nanotechnology PhD Award.
Bio
Dr. Florian Döring, CEO and Founder of XRnanotech in 2020 is dedicated to develop and fabricate innovative nanostructures and diffractive optical elements. He is experienced in the development and fabrication of high-quality X-ray optics with record-breaking resolution. After obtaining his MBA, he is determined to bring nanostructured optics to market with a dedicated team of scientists, engineers and business people at XRnanotech.
