Trio One World Concert

Experience the best of classical Indian and contemporary Swiss music in this fusion performance by the renowned tabalchi Pt. Udhai Mazumdar, sitarist Rohan Dasgupta and pianist Lisa Maria Schachtschneider on January 27 at the Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan Bangalore.

About Trio One World

In 2021, Lisa Maria Schachtschneider, Rohan Dasgupta and Pandit Udhai Mazumdar met at a concert in Liechtenstein, where the two Indian musicians performed together. Fascinated by the idea of combining the sounds and traditions of classical Indian ragas with western classical piano music and thus creating a completely new listening experience, the three musicians founded Trio One World. The name of the group reflects the coming together of two cultures in world music. It also stands for awareness of a global sense of togetherness and shared global responsibility. The Trio visits India on its maiden tour from 22 January 2024 to 4 February 2024.

 

Since the piano is not a typical Indian instrument, and Indian music, which is heavily influenced by improvisation, is traditionally passed on from generation to generation without sheet music, there is no printed literature for the instrumentation piano-sitar-tabla. In early 2022, Udhai Mazumdar composed two works for the Trio, which were handwritten by the musicians, and in 2023 a third piece was added.

This concert is part of celebrating 75 years of the Swiss-Indian Friendship Treaty.

    Bio

    Pt. Udhai Mazumdar

    Tabalchi and composer

    Udai Mazumdar comes from a family of musicians in Allahabad and has been living in Basel for over 20 years. He has performed at Indian and international festivals, including performing alongside legendary Indian sitarist Pandit Ravi Shankar to the royal families of England and Europe. His artistic work either as
    a composer or as a tabla artist is documented on over ten albums. Udhai Mazumdar’s single title HOPE, which was created during the lockdown with musicians all over the world, was selected for the music album SWISS MUSIC – WORLD VI.

    Rohan Dasgupta

    Sitarist

    Rohan Dasgupta is an internationally-acclaimed classical Sitarist, awarded with the Jadu Bhatta Puraskar, the President’s award for winning the All India Radio competition and has been conferred with the title of ‘Surmani’, which is given to accomplished and talented artists in classical Indian music and which literally translates to “jewel of melody”. Based in India and Europe, Rohan is a frequent performer in the global stage and has collaborated with several world-renowned artists from various genres, creating unique and interesting musical projects. Apart from his primary performances on pure classical Indian music, he also tours extensively (with performances in over 16 countries) and has released numerous music albums globally.

    Lisa Maria Schachtschneider

    Pianist

    Lisa Maria Schachtschneider has been living in eastern Switzerland for ten years and, in addition to her
    teaching activities, regularly performs in Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Germany and Italy. In January
    2021 she released her highly acclaimed debut album FEMINAE – The Female In Music on the
    German label Ars Production (which was nominated for the German Opus Klassik Prize 2021, Album of the Week on Radio Berlin-Brandenburg in February 2021 and Recording of the Month in March 21 on the international music platform MusicWeb International). Since 2021 she has been artistic co-director of the eastern Swiss concert series KiSSS and is also artistic assistant of the Swiss Female Composers.
