The STE Annual Alumni Gathering is a long-standing platform for strengthening ties between Switzerland
and the growing community of alumni of Swiss public universities in China. Building on the success of
previous editions, the event enables alumni to reconnect with their alma maters, receive updates from
alumni chapters, and develop professional and personal networks. By bringing together Chinese alumni
and Swiss students currently studying in China, it also encourages meaningful exchange between the two
communities and further consolidates the Embassy’s alumni network in Beijing and surrounding cities.
At each year’s reunion, representatives from various alumni chapters are invited to share updates on the
development of the alumni network. The 2025 gathering witnessed the launch of the Swiss Students in
China Association (SSCA), with 2026 set to witness the establishment of the ‘Uni Bern-Fribourg-
Neuchâtel’ joint alumni chapter.

The 2026 edition will also serve as a Beijing pre-launch for Swissnex’s flagship Planetary Embassy
project ahead of its major exhibition in Hangzhou in Oct/Nov 2026. Featuring artist Yue HUANG’s
installation Drift of the Uncharted, the pop-up will introduce Planetary Thinking and promote dialogue on
shared responsibility for global environmental challenges. By combining alumni engagement with art,
education, and diplomacy, the event will strengthen the Swiss alumni community in China and advance
the “Swissnex for the Planet” vision.
