Tianmuli (天目里), officially OōEli, is a 230,000-square-meter arts and commercial complex in Hangzhou’s Xihu District, sitting on the route between West Lake and the Xixi National Wetland Park. Designed by the Renzo Piano Building Workshop and opened in 2020, it’s built around 17 raw-concrete buildings arranged around a central plaza. The complex houses the By Art Matters contemporary art museum, offices, and an artist residency program, functioning as one of Hangzhou’s leading cultural and creative landmarks.
The Planetary Embassy China is our flagship initiative: a pop-up part cultural festival, part intellectual salon, part lively café, where we prototype what we call planetary diplomacy. We ask bold, practical questions like: What if a tree could join climate negotiations? What if rivers, glaciers, or forests had their own delegates? What if international agreements had to be approved not only by nations, but by the ecosystems they affect?
