Cosmic Dialogue #2: From Pixels to Cosmos: The Art of Simulating Landscapes

Since 2014, Lily Hibberd has been exploring the cosmos through collaborative and community-focused projects. She skillfully blends painting, performance, and multimedia to explore the intersection of time, memory, and cosmic themes.

Florian Voggeneder, as a crew member and mission photographer of the elite analogue astronaut group for AMADEE-18, has fully immersed himself in the simulation of life and science on Mars. His photographs strikingly present the veracity of an analogue space mission, devoid of artificial staging.

In the context of highly technologically driven simulations, we will explore how both artists reinterpret and transform traditional genres such as landscape and portrait. We will also discover how they employ artistic creativity to craft illusions and narratives that challenge our perceptions. Lily Hibberd and Florian Voggeneder will guide us through their works, unveiling the conceptual approaches and innovative techniques they use to bring their artistic visions to life. Moreover, the dialogue will feature a thought-provoking discussion on gender dynamics within the fields of art and science.

Cosmic Dialogues

Cosmic Dialogues, are a one-hour online or in-person session with the artists of Cosmos Archaeology Exhibition or the scientists of relevant topics to share their artworks, research projects and insights. As Swissnex in China is the official LASER (Leonardo Art Science Evening Rendezvous) host in China, the Cosmic Dialogues are part of the LASER Talks and aim to deepen our engagement with the international art-science community, facilitating exchanges and inspiring new perspectives.

Iris Long is a writer, independent curator and Berggruen Fellow. Her recent work has been focused on the critical infrastructures in China, fundamental science and art. Iris Long is also a Swissnex Fellow.

Lily Hibberd
Artist, writer, and researcher
Lily Hibberd is an Australian artist, writer, and researcher concerned with frontiers of time and memory based in Paris, France. Her interdisciplinary art practice combines painting, performance, writing, photography, sound, moving image, and installation art, and is grounded in scientific content and community contexts. Many of Lily’s projects are developed in extended collaboration and research with artists, scientists, and historians, and on the invitation of communities and curators. She has presented work in fifty major exhibitions and festivals since 1997. Lily Hibberd is founding editor of the experimental art and writing publication un Magazine and cofounder of Parragirls Memory Project, and a researcher at Université Paris Cité and EPFL Laboratory for Experimental Museology in Lausanne Switzerland.

Florian Voggeneder is an editorial, corporate and documentary photographer based out of Linz, Austria. People, signals and interferences are recurring topics in his work. He is currently investigating the human endeavor to become a multiplanetary species.
