In many ways, the pandemic influences the production of scientific knowledge as well as its dissemination among decision-makers and the general public. Time pressure and high public scrutiny, notably, affect the usual processes and information pipelines. For science communicators and journalists alike, this brings other factors into play in their professional sphere.

In other words, the pandemic has changed the chain of communication that goes from experts to the general public – lab work, peer-reviewing, publication, public reporting.

Our survey aims to gain insights into how science journalists and science communicators in different countries perceive and understand
– the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on science outreach and reporting
– how COVID-19 science has been communicated to the public, and
– how it will impact their work going forward.

With these insights, we aim to foster an exchange among science communicators and journalists in and between different countries, provide a platform to share best practices and knowledge on science outreach and reporting in the (post-) COVID-19 world, thereby strengthening their global network.
