Swissnex in China advances Swiss-Chinese collaboration in education, research, and innovation by leveraging relevant contacts, scouting content, and providing context. Swissnex in China’s mission is to support the outreach and active engagement of partners in the international exchange of knowledge, ideas, and talent. We contribute to strengthening Switzerland’s profile as a world-leading hotspot of innovation. Swissnex is an initiative of the State Secretariat for Education, Research, and Innovation of Switzerland and is part of the Swiss Confederation’s network abroad managed by the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs. The six main Swissnex locations are established in some of the world’s most innovative regions: Boston, Brazil, China, India, Japan, and San Francisco.
We are looking for a recent graduate with study abroad experience, strong research skills, and excellent English command, ready to support Swissnex with reporting and innovation scouting.
As Junior Project Manager you will conduct research and innovation scouting, will collaborate closely with our Swiss mandate partners, and will act as a point of contact. This unique opportunity will allow you to take a deep dive into emerging trends while gaining real-world experience at an official representation of Switzerland. We are looking for a bright, self-driven and ambitious team player with exceptional research, writing, and organizational skills. The ideal candidate can work across disciplines, can embrace change, and is ready to help us bring Swiss excellence to the next level. You will be joining a dynamic and supportive team and working in an international, creative, and collaborative environment at our Shanghai office.
Main Responsibilities
- Intelligence and Research: Under the lead and supervision of the Head of Innovation & Entrepreneurship, contribute to our diverse mandates and agreements by identifying trends and key players in various science and technology fields, by conducting research and innovation scouting, and by writing and editing reports for our partners and stakeholders. Act as point of contact for external partners.
- Event and Project Management: Under the lead and supervision of the Head of Innovation & Entrepreneurship, plan, execute and post-process in-house and external activities related to science, technology, and innovation (tech fairs, webinars, conferences, study trips, workshops, etc.), including logistics, and editing of reports and blogs.
- Startup Relations: Assist the Head of Section and colleagues with the promotion of our startup programs and building rapport and follow-up with Swiss startups and entrepreneurs.
- Communications: Project-related and general communications.
- Networking: Proactively cultivate and develop a network of partners and stakeholders. Attend relevant events and conferences.
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Recent Master’s graduate with study abroad experience
- Excellent written and oral command of English and Chinese
- Strong research skills with a willingness to immerse yourself in various tech- and business-related topics
- Interest in startup and entrepreneurship ecosystem as well as in science, technology, and innovation
- Prior experience in event organization and/or project management in a similar field preferred
- Fast-thinking, organized, reliable, and detail-oriented
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team
- Chinese citizenship

As the first Consulate in Japan with a focus on science diplomacy, Swissnex in Japan connects Switzerland and Japan in education, research, and innovation. In operation since 2022, the new Consulate is looking for a fearless Startup & Innovation Manager for its Startup and Innovation team.

Mission
- Manage, coordinate and organize startup, innovation, and high-tech-related activities and events, including mandates, projects, fundraising, and logistics.
- Conduct research on innovation-related topics and identify new trends and developments in the fields of innovation and high-tech such as AI, robotics, quantum, spacetech, etc.
- Foster networks and relationships between Swiss and Japanese innovation ecosystems and actively support Swiss deeptech startups interested in Japan.
- Smartly drive communication between partners, sponsors, and other project stakeholders.
- Proactive collaboration within the Swissnex team and Team Switzerland in Japan.
Skills and Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree / Master’s Degree
- Passionate about entrepreneurship, innovation and deeptech
- Excellent command of business English and Japanese.
- Familiarity with Swiss and Japanese deeptech startups and innovation networks. Existing network in the Kansai region a plus.
- Experience in project management.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, commitment to excellence, passionate.
- Responsible, curious, flexible, pragmatic, forward-thinking, self-starting team-player.
- Professional appearance and demeanor suitable for outreach to and contact with C-level individuals and executives.
- Compatible with a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment and willing to work outside office hours, for events or visiting groups.
- Computer literacy (Mac OS, MS Office, Google Suite, Zoho, Zoom, SNS, etc.).
- Interest in Switzerland and Japan.
