    Communications Manager @ Swissnex in China

    Start: January/February 2024

    Contract Duration: 12 months (with the possibility to extend)

    Workload: Full-time, 40 hours / week

    Location: Shanghai


    Swissnex is Switzerland’s global network connecting the dots in education, research and innovation. Our programs and initiatives with universities, startups, researchers and corporates advance and strengthen Sino-Swiss collaboration. Swissnex is an initiative of the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation of Switzerland and is part of the Swiss Confederation’s network abroad managed by the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs. Swissnex in China is an Annex of the Consulate General of Switzerland in Shanghai.

    We are looking for a Communications Manager who is responsible for developing and overseeing a creative and strategic multi-channel and content strategy that supports Swissnex in China to reach its objectives and intended impact.

    The Communications Manager will work closely with the whole team and give advice in developing messages, drafting texts, developing visuals and selecting channels. The ideal candidate is passionate about telling stories and can help us convey the purpose and impact of our initiatives in an engaging and content-driven manner. We offer a central role in a small, dynamic and international team, with plenty of space to grow and develop your skills, as well as take responsibility and initiate your own ideas to reinforce our mission.


    Main Responsibilities
    • Develop and implement a creative / innovative communication and content strategy that supports Swissnex in China’s overarching mission
    • Design and help implement effective, targeted communications for new programs and initiatives
    • Advise and actively support larger and strategic initiatives and collaborate with internal staff throughout the life-cycle of a project, from ideation to implementation and reporting
    • Lead and support all design and content development in collaboration with internal team members
    • Coordinate content for Swissnex in China’s major publications
    • Ensure all Swissnex in China’s communication channels are kept active and up to date with relevant and timely content
    • Lead the Swissnex in China communication team (currently one FTE) and manage all external communications relations with service providers and partners (notably Swissnex Network, Embassy, Consulates)


    • Immaculate English (spoken and written); Chinese skills are an asset
    • Relevant work experience (2+ years) in communications, journalism, or copywriting
    • Able to translate projects and initiatives into communicable insights and messages
    • Interested in research and science topics and willingness to immerse oneself in our projects and initiatives
    • Self-motivated, proactive and flexible multitasker; outgoing personality and team player
    • Master graduate, ideally with study abroad experience
    • Willingness to experiment with content, design and strategy and go the extra mile
    • Swiss or Chinese citizenship
