
As part of swisstech @ Web Summit Rio 2025, the session “Agroecology and Innovation: A Swiss-Brazilian Dialogue” will bring together Gabriela Oliveira from Swiss company Atlas Agro and Ana Paula Turetta from the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa) to explore the critical role of agroecology is shaping a more sustainable and resilient agricultural future in Brazil. Drawing from their distinct experiences in private sector innovation and public research, the conversation will highlight how agroecological practices can enhance food security, preserve biodiversity, and support local communities. The panel will also examine opportunities for collaboration between science, business, and policy to scale sustainable solutions across Brazil’s diverse agricultural landscapes.

Maria Gabriela da Rocha Oliveira
Atlas AgroMaria Gabriela da Rocha Oliveira currently serves as Director of Renewable Energy and Government Relations at Swiss company Atlas Agro, where she leads power procurement and public affairs strategies for the development of green hydrogen-based nitrogen fertilizer plants in Brazil and the US. Prior to joining Atlas Agro, she held senior roles at Shell, where she built and led the renewable generation business in Brazil, developing a utility-scale solar and offshore wind portfolio. She also worked at First Solar, driving market expansion in Latin America, and at Bloomberg New Energy Finance, where she led research and advisory projects focused on low-carbon investment in emerging markets. Gabriela holds a Master’s degree from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs. She is passionate about advancing Brazil’s green reindustrialization and promoting gender diversity in the clean energy sector.

Ana Paula Turetta
EmbrapaAna Paula Turetta currently serves as Deputy Head of Research and Development at Embrapa Soils, a unit of the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa). A geographer by training with a doctorate in soil science, she has been a researcher at Embrapa Soils in Rio de Janeiro since 2006. Turetta brings extensive expertise in the environmental sector, with a particular focus on the interaction between soils and rural landscapes. Her research centers on assessing the sustainability of rural environments and food systems, with an emphasis on soil ecosystem services and their role in promoting agricultural multifunctionality.

Pedro Capra
Swissnex in BrazilAs Academic Relations Program Manager at Swissnex in Brazil. He helps connect universities, think tanks, research institutions, professors, and researchers to establish, and further develop, science and technology partnerships. He holds a PhD in Political Science from UNICAMP and spent time as Visiting Researcher in Switzerland, first at the University of Zurich and later at the University of Fribourg. Since then he has been working closely with Latin Americanists from Switzerland and abroad.
